South Tyrol – Merano
Merano, the pearl of South Tyrol
Many people head for South Tyrol or the rest of Italy when they cross the Timmelsjoch Pass.
Merano is a world-renowned resort town located in a scenic basin between the Vinschgau and the Passeier Valley.
Merano’s mild Mediterranean climate is the result of the town’s special geographic location. Protected by mountain ranges to the North and the South, the town grows a wide variety of Mediterranean and subtropical plants that thrive in abundance in the city’s parks. When you walk along the renowned Tappeiner path or rest on a bench on one of the beautiful promenades, you can marvel at palm trees, cypresses, cacti, and other exotic plants that are usually not found at this latitude.
Besides having an outstanding climate and fresh air, the conference and resort town prides itself on many leisure facilities and excellent restaurants.
The medieval town center was preserved to the mid-20th century. When Merano became a world resort town, the center changed. However, you can still find medieval remnants in Tyrol’s old capital.
