Tower Museum Oetz
The attractions of the tower museum
All those who enter the museum will be surprised by its architectural details, which range from Romanesque to contemporary. It includes medieval rooms as well as ample, light-flooded halls from early modern times. Its sparse décor includes choice rustic and bourgeois furniture, as would have been customary in old homes in the Oetz Valley.
The museum’s main attraction is, however, its art gallery!
Some of the museum’s early religious paintings are a few hundred years old. The museum is strong on Alpine landscape paintings, which first came up 200 years ago. Many renowned artists helped discover the Oetz Valley Alps and left invaluable examples of their work here. The museum also displays some fine examples of original folk art from the lower valley that are shown in changing exhibitions. Intermittently, the museum curators focus on photography, which served not only as an artistic expression, but also as topographic evidence.

The museum tries to pay tribute to regional artists who have made a name for themselves in other parts of the world. The most famous among them is the sculptor Matthias Bernhard Braun. Changing exhibitions attract many visitors to the museum. In addition, the curators pay special attention to local art that is often overlooked by big institutions.
