Highlights: ascent via the Hohe Mut Bahn cable car from the hotel, moraine fields in front of the Gaisberg glacier, search for Almandin garnets typical of the Ötztal Valley
Type: trek for hikers with good fitness levels
Walking time: approx. 8 1/2 hours
Highlights: high-alpine trek with excellent views and diverse flora, visit to Ramolhaus mountain hut, crossing of the Gurgler Ferner glacier to the location where Dr Auguste Piccard landed in his Stratos balloon in 1931, descent via Langtalereckhütte and Schönwieshütte huts back to Obergurgl – only for hikers with Alpine experience and/or accompanied by a mountain guide!
Type: challenging family hike
Walking time: approx. 5 hours
Highlights: meadows with Alpine roses above Hochgurgl, ascent via Königstal Valley to the Zollhütte hut at the Königsjoch ridge, cross the border into Italy via a 'secret path' to a beautiful high-alpine pasture in South Tyrol – return journey from Timmelsjoch ridge to Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl by taxi or bus.
Type: hike to over 3000m for walkers with moderate Alpine experience
Walking time: approx. 8 hours
Highlights: several mountain lakes on the way, crossing of the Loobferner glacier, unique views over the Ötztal Valley from the 3278m summit – for more information speak to our mountain guide at the regular hikers' get-together.
Type: adventurous glacier hike over the border to Italy
Highlights: ascent via the Hohe Mut Bahn cable car from Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl, crossing of the Mutsattel ridge to the Rotmoosferner glacier, glacier crossing (don't forget to rope up!) via the Rotmoosjoch ridge over the border to the Zwickauer Hütte hut in Italy – return on the hiking bus via the Timmelsjoch High-Alpine Road.
