The Obergurgl pine forest is a natural jewel at the end of the Ötztal Valley. Situated at between 1950m and 2100m, it covers a total of 20 hectares and is well worth a visit.
Its trees, some of which are 300 years old, have enjoyed protected status since 1963 and form part of the Gurgler Kamm UNESCO Biosphere Reserve .
A 2.1km marked adventure trail gives guests staying at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl direct access to the pine forest.
The bottom station of the Hohe Mut Bahn cable car leaves from just outside the front door of the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl.
Guests wishing to visit the Obergurgl pine forest can get off the cable car at the middle station and embark on an adventure for all the family.
A network of hiking trails lead through the forest, where the air hangs heavy with the scent of pinewood.
Along the paths there are 13 information boards with information about the trees themselves and the animals living in the area. There are also plenty of places to stop and have a rest.
The pine forest above Obergurgl is a great experience with plenty to see and smell. But that isn't all!
Back at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl you can enjoy pinewood schnapps and liquer, combining the unique taste of pinewood with an alcoholic kick.
