The end of the Ötztal Valley, where our Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl lies at 1930m, is known for its clean mountain air and mild temperatures thanks to a warm weather influence from the region around Merano in South Tyrol.
In the Obergurgl pine forest the treeline lies at 2400m, cleansing the air and meaning that hay fever sufferers will have few problems, even during the pollen season.
Dust mites are also unable to survive at such high altitudes.
For many years the Institute of Botany at the University of Innsbruck has used pollen traps to measure pollen levels in Obergurgl. Their results have consistently shown very low levels of pollen in the air, making Obergurgl an excellent destination for guests who suffer from hay fever. The village also hosts a number of asthma camps for children and teenagers initiated by renowned institutes for behavioural medicine.
At the four-star superior Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl we offer our guests who suffer from asthma the chance to complete a comprehensive behavioural training programme, while parents can learn about the best ways to help their children deal with asthma and its symptoms.
The AMAS Study 2000 showed that holidays at high altitude are beneficial because they mobilise the the body's muscles and teach it to use its energy levels in a more efficient way.
The study showed that a long hiking holiday at between 1500m and 2500m can combat common illnesses such as high blood pressure, metabolic disorders, excess body weight and cardiovascular diseases.
During the summer months the many cable cars and lifts running throughout the Ötztal Valley mean that it could not be easier to scale the heights.
Enjoy the view on the way up and breathe in the clean air at the summit.
