Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl in the Austrian Alps

Your hosts Tanja and Lukas Scheiber as well as the whole team here at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl take pride in providing guests with an unforgettable holiday experience, from friendly and professional service from the moment you arrive to light, spacious and modern rooms & suites in the heart of the Alps. The hotel has been run by the Scheiber family for four generations now, meaning we have the benefit of many decades of experience welcoming guests from around the world.

Our roots in the Ötztal Valley run deep. We and our dedicated team of staff are happy and honoured to be a part of this beautiful alpine region and strive to make it a little bit better every day by making our guests feel at home.

It's the little things that often make the difference on holiday. That is why we strive to offer guests a memorable stay in the Austrian Alps right down to the smallest detail.

A man, a vision

In 1881 Martin Scheiber created the first alpine refuge in the Ötztal Valley: the Ramolhaus at 3,006 metres above sea level. At the same time he started planning the construction of a new guesthouse called the "Edelweiss" in Obergurgl. Martin Scheiber would go on to build a number of huts in the Ötztal Valley before the turn of the century on behalf of the Austrian Alpine Association, thereby laying the foundations for tourism in the region.

130 years of history

Fourth-generation family-run hotel

As well as decades of experience and a gentuinely warm welcome, our friendly and professional staff here at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl are a key part of making your stay an unforgettable experience. We aim to make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. If there is anything you need or any questions you have, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our members of staff at reception. They will be happy to help.

Our motto is Remarkable Moments. Depending on what you are looking for, that can be anything from adrenaline-pumping adventures high in the Alps to relaxing evenings with close friends and family in the hotel.

A core aspect of our philosophy right from the start in 1889 has been respect for nature. We are happy and proud to live in a place as special as the Ötztal Valley. Preserving this outstanding natural beauty for guests staying at our hotel as well as future generations is of great importance to us.

"Ever since we first opened in 1889, my family has had two priorities: looking after our guests and promoting sustainable tourism in the valley." Lukas Scheiber, fourth-generation owner of the E&G

Our values

Hospitality, honesty & transparency

The Ötztal Valley is our home and our heart. We are proud to share the best of this region with our guests. The current owner of the hotel, Lukas Scheiber, is the fourth generation of the Scheiber family to run the E&G. His grandfather was one of the pioneers of tourism in the Ötztal Valley. Today, Lukas and his family are truly proud of what they have achieved over more than a century of work and take pleasure in developing the hotel and its facilities in order to stay at the cutting edge of the industry.

Lukas Scheiber began working in the hotel at a young age. In 2003 his father handed over the running of the E&G to him. Since then he has continued the traditions established by his father, grandfather and great-grandfather while at the same time bringing his own ideas and innovations to the business. Many of these ideas were gathered during his time spent working abroad, including in the UK. Now Lukas is happy to be back in the Ötztal Valley to welcome guests from around the world to the E&G.

Among the most important things Lukas learned from his parents were the core values that continue to shape the E&G today. At the heart of it all lies a commitment to support and listen to our staff who work so hard every day. We also believe in keeping our word and honouring promises. Honesty and transparency are essential elements of our philosophy and help contribute to the trust guests have been placing in us for over one hundred years now. Come to the E&G and find out why!

Team E&G

Happy workers mean happy guests

Our luxurious spa & beauty area, cosy rooms & suites and delicious food & drink are all important factors for a good holiday, but we also know just how essential service is – which is why here at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl it is all about the team. Our friendly and experienced crew works hard every day to make sure guests staying with us can enjoy a holiday to remember. In order for them to be able to give 100% every day, we make sure our team members feel valued and are able to contribute to the development of the hotel.

In their spare time, E&G staff can relax at our purpose-built accommodation #teamhome in a relaxing atmosphere where they can unwind and enjoy the Ötztal Valley.

"As a hotel boss, I like having people with strong opinions who, in some cases, are better qualified than me in their respective areas. I want people with initiative and new ideas. Those are vital to enable a hotel like ours to grow.“ – E&G owner Lukas Scheiber

Good, better, the best

Constant quest for improvment at the E&G

Here at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl we are proud of what we have achieved over the last 130 years. At the same time, we certainly aren't going to sit back and rest on our laurels. Maintaining and improving on the outstanding quality we have built up over the decades is essential in order to offer every single guest a special holiday experience. Quality-assurance measures at the E&G include staff-led checks and mystery guest visits. We take time to read comments by our guests and take them very seriously. "We also use online tools as well such as rating platforms. These are important sources of information for us. We take this feedback on board and try to reply to as many comments as possible," says Lukas Scheiber.

During the winter months, Lukas can often be found out and about in the ski resort personally checking the pistes and the huts: "These are important elements of the overall impression guests have of Obergurgl and the valley. That is why I often hit the slopes and take a look for myself to see if everything is up to the usual standard. If there are any shortcomings, I will have a chat with the person in charge to see if we can find a solution."

Edelweiss & Gurgl Team
