Rent or buy ski equiment at the hotel's own sports store inside the hotel building. 

When did the first guests check in at Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl?

Hard to believe, but true. The first guests arrived at the hotel in 1889 and loved the special flair in Obergurgl even back then. The hotel is a well-known Ötztal institution.

As one of the first non-glacier ski areas, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl always opens in mid-November and is guaranteed snow until the end of April. 

What is this metal ball at the village square all about?

The Piccard Monument, erected in 1989, commemorates the emergency landing of Prof. Auguste Piccard on the Gurgler Ferner on May 27, 1931. (=glacier) The news of his rescue spread all around the world at the time.
