Located 800 metres below the earth's surface, the Schwaz Silver Mine offers visitors an experience that will leave them with memories for a lifetime.
Follow in the footsteps of the local population who mined silver and copper here 500 years ago and travel back in time to an age when experts still believed that the world was flat.
The standard guided tour (90 minutes) will show you the hardships experienced by miners working in this area of Tyrol during the "silver rush" and give you an idea of just how important Schwaz was during this period in the Middle Ages.
During your visit you will be able to experience at first hand what life was like in the mine. A group of local actors recreate a number of scenes from daily life 500 years ago using the dark tunnels 800m underground as a unique stage. Don't miss out on the chance to learn more about the Tyrol region during the Middle Ages.
After returning to the surface via the miners' lift, stop off at the 175m² Silver Shop to find out why this precious metal remains so fascinating even today and pick up a small souvenir of your visit to take home.
Travel along the motorway as far as the exit marked "Schwaz". Leave the motorway here and continue as far as the roundabout, before taking the exit to "Jenbach".
Follow the B171 for 2.6km and then turn off right onto the road marked "Bergwerksstraße".
Drive for 600m and then turn left into the car park marked "Parkplatz 2" continue for another 100m before turning right into the car park marked "Parkplatz 1".
It is just a 50m walk to the Schwaz Silver Mine along a tarmac path.
