Step out onto the balcony of your room in the four-star Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl at 1930m, breathe in the fresh air and marvel at the almost unlimited options for hiking and other outdoor activities in the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl region.
Perched at the end of the Ötztal Valley, the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl is the ideal base camp. From adrenaline-pumping adventures to relaxing walks, the most beautiful valley in Tyrol is the best place to experience the beauty of the Alps at first hand. Activities in the region include:
The region near Obergurgl is home to many small gorges as well as the mighty Ötztaler Ache canyon, making the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl a great base for holidaymakers wishing to take on the wildwater of the Alps.
Professional guides are available to accompany you on a rafting tour on the Inn river from Landeck to Haiming, through the Imster Schlucht canyon or down the churning waters of the Ötztaler Ache. Canyoning is similar to rafting but with one big difference – there's no boat! While the jumps on the beginners' tour in the Alpenrosenklamm gorge are 'only' 3 metres high, those with nerves of steel can take on the Auerklamm with drops of up to 10 metres. The good news is that for all jumps abseiling is offered as an alternative way of getting down!
From thrilling singletrails with stunning views to wide gravel paths leading past cosy mountain huts, it is no wonder that the Ötztal Valley is so popular with mountain bikers.
Cyclists who prefer to stick to the roads are also spoilt for choice at the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl. One absolute must on a roadbike is the Timmelsjoch High-Alpine Road over the border into Italy.
The combination of unique thermal conditions, breathtaking views from the Zugspitze to the Wildspitze and stable weather conditions make the Ötztal Valley a great place for paragliding.
After taking off from Hochoetz, Niederthai or Sölden, paragliders can quickly gain altitude and soar up to 3800 metres. Tandem flights are also available – contact the E&G virtual reception via our live chat service to find out more.
Torch-lit tours of the 2km network of underground tunnels below the Ötztal Valley in Amberg last around 4 - 5 hours. Constructed during the Second World War, these vast tunnels are popular with hikers looking for a new perspective on the Alps.
It takes around 40 minutes to walk through the heart of the mountain. Once you arrive on the other side you will be greeted by magnificent views of the Inn Valley as you enjoy a traditional Tyrolean snack. Then it is time to head back to Oetz and return from there to the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl by car or bus.
The many unique golf courses in Austria's mountains have long achieved cult status among those in the know. Here at the four-star Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl at 1930 metres above sea level golf enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice.
