Ski holidays with children

Family fun in the Ötztal Valley

The Ötztal Valley in general, and the ski resort of Obergurgl-Hochgurgl in particular, are perfect for families thanks to its quiet setting with many easy slopes for children. The resort's new beginners' area is the ideal place for young skiers and snowboarders to take their first tentative turns on snow. As they progress and become more confident they can join their families on the many easy and intermediate pistes in the resort.

Of the 112 kilometres of slopes in the resort, 90 kilometres are rated either easy or intermediate. The 35 kilometres of easy blue runs are perfect for families with younger children. Don't forget to stop off at one of the mountain huts for a hearty meal on the sunny terrace.

Family-friendly lifts and slopes

Families love the descent from the Wurmkogel mountain in Hochgurgl. This run is rated easy (blue) and is therefore ideal for children and all those who simply like to take it easy on the slopes. The trip from the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl over to Hochgurgl is an experience in itself.

The adventure starts on the Rosskarbahn chairlift right outside the hotel. Once up on the Festkogel mountain, skiers descend along piste number 3 to the Top Express cable car. The 3.6-kilometre journey takes passengers  from Obergurgl to Hochgurgl via the Verwalltal Valley and the Königstal Valley. There is plenty of time to enjoy the wonderful views of the many mountains above 3,000 metres as you make your way over the Hochgurgl.

Ski-in, ski-out

Hotel with equipment rental

One of the best family-friendly ski runs in Obergurgl starts on the Festkogl mountain above the hotel. From top to bottom it is eight kilometres of pure skiing pleasure all the way down to the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl – ideal for kids who are finding their skiing legs.

Guests staying at our four-star superior hotel in Obergurgl can use the Scheiber Sport rental shop within the hotel to benefit from free equipment hire for children up to the age of nine years if both parents also hire skis, poles and ski boots from Scheiber Sport. All children are, of course, provided with a helmet as well.

Tip!

Split for the morning, meet for lunch!

Many families are made up of skiers of different ages and abilities. We recommend splitting into groups for the morning and then meeting up for lunch at one of the mountain huts. The ski resort Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is large enough to offer a wide variety of skiing but small enough to easily meet up and share stories.

The perfect way to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable day on the slopes before it's time to head back to the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl for dinner together.

Unique experience for families

The Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl is the perfect "base camp" for family-friendly winter holidays.
