Built at the end of the 19th century by mountaineering pioneer and founder of the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl, Martin Scheiber, the Ramolhaus is an Alpine hut in the traditional sense of the term.
At 3006 metres it is an ideal starting point for hikers with experience at high altitude, though all walkers wishing to reach the Ramolhaus should make sure they have the necessary Alpine equipment.
The Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl's in-house sports shop has everything you need to stay safe while hiking and trekking in the region around Obergurgl. Our professional guides will be happy to accompany you as you explore the magical yet dangerous glaciers at the end of the Ötztal Valley. Meet up with guides at the regular mountainering get-together before you start your ascent to the Ramolhaus in the company of an experienced alpinist.
Eye-to-eye with the highest mountains in the Ötztal Valley
With 26 beds and 38 dormitory spaces, the Ramolhaus has plenty of space to accommodate groups of hikers who wish to experience the special feeling of sleeping at over 3000m. Here, high above the valley floor, the traditional and hearty food prepared with great attention to detail tastes twice as good – especially after a long day out hiking in the fresh air! Most of the ingredients that go into the dishes are sourced from the farm run by the Scheiber family or other local producers and transported fresh from the valley up to the hut every day via a supply cable car. This cable car is also a great solution for hikers wishing to lighten their load before beginning the ascent to the hut – they can simply leave their rucksacks in Obergurgl and pick them up again when they arrive at the top!
A hike from Obergurgl to the Ramolhaus, followed by a good night's sleep at over 3000m is a unique experience. Or why not make the hut your home for a while and spend several days exploring the majestic mountains of the Ötztal Alps?
Be on the safe side and hire a qualified mountain guide if you are thinking about embarking on challenging high-alpine hikes or venturing onto any of the glaciers in the region. With their experience and local knowledge, guides are the best way to stay safe while exploring the Ötztal Valley.
