Our head chef’s philosophy
Head chef Christian Weis, who manages the kitchen at Edelweiss & Gurgl, is a “classic chef” in the best sense of the word. He values the Austrian dishes and traditional recipes. At the same time, he is open to new trends if they can be integrated into the high-quality cooking concept at Edelweiss & Gurgl.
The chef de cuisine doesn’t want to complicate the menu, leaving guests to research on the internet to find answers. New ingredients are of course allowed, but what is served should remain comprehensible.
Together with his team, Weis is constantly looking for new approaches such as alternative cooking methods: “These can make sense, but for me a steak still belongs on the grill”, says the down-to-earth chef.

Our day bar received a facelift in 2020 and is a popular meeting place for both guests and locals alike
Traditional natural materials such as wood and stone create a warm and welcoming atmosphere as you gaze out at the towering mountains above. Keep your eye out for little details such as the lines carved into the wooden panelling reflecting the topography of the Ötztal Alps.

Hut cuisine at altitude
The uniquely situated Zirben Alm, belonging to our 4*S hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl, contains the perfect ingredients for a cosy hut afternoon or evening with live music.

The 2020 edition of the Falstaff restaurant guide awarded the E&G à la carte restaurant 87 Points and 2 Forks. The reviewers praised the use of regional and seasonal produce, including meat from our own farm as well as milk and butter from our own dairy. Further positive aspects mentioned in the review include the stylish interior, fondue room and friendly service.
